You cannot get a Utah learner permit entirely online. Utah DLD online services handle pre-filing only; An in-person visit is mandatory for identity verification, the general knowledge test, and final issuance.
The Utah Driver License Division (DLD) does offer extensive online services to prepare and reduce steps in your application. You can complete most prep work from home before ever stepping into an office.
You can complete the Driver License Application online, schedule your learner permit appointment, review office information, and use DLD study resources before your visit. The learner permit itself is not completed entirely online.
After you receive your learner permit: Use your permit number to register for the online Traffic Safety and Trends Exam. Complete it before receiving your first permanent Class D license. See Next Steps After Permit in our Utah permit-to-license guide.
Completing the application online does not replace the document check at the office. Utah DLD's learner-permit process still requires you to present your identity, Social Security, lawful-presence when applicable, and Utah-address documents to the examiner during the in-person appointment.
The learner-permit process uses Utah DLD's website for the application and appointment. Utah also has the GET Mobile ID app for eligible issued driver licenses and identification cards, but that app is not a learner-permit application or appointment app.
Identity-document review, the vision screening, photo, fee payment, and the 50-question written knowledge test are handled during the in-person DLD learner permit appointment.
The written knowledge test is taken at the Driver License Division. Read the Passing Score topic in our Utah permit-test guide for scoring, or the failed knowledge test guide for retakes.
A lost or stolen learner permit requires an in-person learner appointment; the fee is $19. For the replacement steps, choose Lost / Stolen Permit in our Utah appointment and permit-services guide.
Yes: log into your DLD account at dldapply.ps.utah.gov to track status. The physical card ships by mail after approval; processing takes 7-14 business days.
You can check certain permit status info online. Live application tracking is not available.
There is no real-time progress bar for your application. You also cannot track shipping after the card is mailed.
Applicants often believe the "Where's My License" tool provides instant updates from the moment they leave the DLD. It only shows status after 30+ days when the card enters central issuance. This causes unnecessary calls to DLD within the first two weeks.
No. Utah DLD does not list learner permits as supported mobile credentials. For PDF, phone-photo, wallet, and other digital-copy questions, choose Digital Permit in our Utah appointment and permit-services guide.
"The AI mock tests were surprisingly realistic. The explanations for road signs helped me understand the logic, not just memorize. Passed my permit test on the first try!"

"I was struggling with the specific road rules of my state until I used Shoro. The flashcards are a game changer for quick revision before the actual exam."
