Alberta does not currently provide a permanent mobile Class 7 driver's licence. The valid-document options and the difference between an official temporary download and an ordinary photo or screenshot are explained below.
No current Alberta government page lists a driver's licence as an Apple Wallet or Google Wallet credential. Alberta now has its own Alberta Wallet, but the government says the Mobile Health Card is the first document available and that more documents will be added later. A Class 7 driver's licence is not currently listed as an Alberta Wallet document.
When an eligible online renewal is completed and the service is available, the temporary driver's licence download remains in My Account for 60 days after purchase. The initial download is available only during the service's stated download hours.
Can a registry agent retrieve your temporary digital licence for you? No. Alberta's eServices page says registry agents cannot access a customer's digital download products. The download is accessed through the customer's own My Account.
No. An official temporary driver's licence generated by Alberta's renewal service is an issued document that can be displayed on a mobile device or printed. A phone photo or screenshot of a regular plastic licence is only an image of the card and is not the same document.
For normal Class 7 use, carry the physical licence card or an official temporary driver's licence. A photo or screenshot of the regular card is not the same as an official temporary licence. If you use an official temporary download on your phone, make sure you can display it when needed.
| Document | Accepted as the licence? | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Physical Alberta driver's licence card | Yes | The permanent licence card. |
| Official temporary driver's licence downloaded after an eligible online renewal | Yes, when issued | Alberta says the official download may be displayed on a mobile device or printed. |
| Photo, scan, or screenshot of a regular licence | No | It is an unofficial copy, not the licence itself. |

"The AI mock tests were surprisingly realistic. The explanations for road signs helped me understand the logic, not just memorize. Passed my permit test on the first try!"
