NJ MVC does not publish one fixed statewide booking window for learner-permit appointments. The online scheduler shows the dates currently released for each Licensing Center. If the date you need is not shown, check another Licensing Center or check the official scheduler again later.
Usually, yes. NJ MVC lists the initial permit and knowledge test as separate appointment steps. If knowledge testing is available during your initial permit appointment, you may be able to take the test during that same visit instead.
Use the MVC scheduler to choose a Licensing Center offering the service you need. If your preferred location has no suitable slot, check another Licensing Center rather than using a Regional Service Center, which is not a substitute for a standard initial-permit appointment.
A parent or guardian can help a minor use the online scheduler, but the appointment should be booked for the applicant. The applicant still has to meet the MVC's age, identity, and parent-consent requirements at the visit.
What should I do if I never receive my NJ MVC appointment confirmation email? Check your spam or junk folder first and make sure the booking details were entered correctly. If you cannot verify the appointment, use the official NJ MVC scheduler or contact MVC before creating a second booking or traveling to the agency.
At the Jersey City office, an applicant showed up expecting walk-in priority for an initial permit and was turned away because that transaction requires an appointment. This does not mean every MVC service is appointment-only; service rules depend on the transaction.
