Lost, stolen, or damaged Arkansas instruction permit? You need a duplicate to drive legally. The Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration (DFA) handles all replacement requests.
this is one of the simplest DFA office tasks you'll face, if you show up prepared.
DFA handles Arkansas duplicate permits. If your information has not changed, an eligible simple duplicate may be requested through MyDMV or handled in person at a DFA Revenue Office. If your name, address, or other permit information needs correction, use the in-person correction process instead.
The statutory duplicate fee is $10. The online transaction total shown by MyDMV in this article remains separate from that base duplicate fee.
| Replacement Route | Best Fit | Cost / Timing |
|---|---|---|
| Online simple duplicate | Information is unchanged and the applicant meets MyDMV eligibility | $11.50 online total as listed here; card is mailed and no temporary permit is generated |
| In person at DFA | You need a same-day temporary credential or information must be corrected | $10 duplicate fee; temporary paper credential may be issued during the visit |
A parent can help a minor with the replacement process, but do not assume the parent can complete an in-person credential transaction without the permit holder. If the online replacement service does not accept the request, contact the Revenue Office before going.
Arkansas's published replacement service does not list a police report as a standard requirement for ordering a duplicate. You can still report theft if you are concerned about misuse of the credential.
Check the online replacement service first. Arkansas says eligible replacement driver credentials can be ordered online and mailed, but do not drive on the assumption that an order confirmation replaces the physical permit.
If the card is damaged enough that the photo, identifying information or barcode is hard to read, replace it. A badly worn card can cause problems when the credential needs to be inspected.
Does a duplicate Arkansas permit keep the same expiration date? A duplicate replaces the existing credential; it does not start a new permit term. The original expiration remains the date that controls unless DFA separately changes the credential type.
For a straightforward duplicate with unchanged information, follow DFA/MyDMV duplicate instructions. If your name, address, or other data has changed, that is a correction case; use the Errors on Permit guide for the supporting-document steps instead of duplicating them here.
| Requirement | Details |
|---|---|
| Identity / record match | Follow the duplicate-request instructions for the route you use; changed information may require additional original documents in person |
| Social Security record | Must be verifiable as required by DFA |
| Replacement fee | $10 base duplicate fee; additional online or card-processing charges may apply |
The replacement permit is issued in person at the DFA counter on the same visit, no waiting period. A new plastic card may be mailed within 3 to 5 business days if the office issues a paper interim copy first.
Your new plastic card arrives by mail within 10-15 business days for in-person applications. Online orders typically ship in 3-5 business days.
A lost, stolen, or damaged permit with unchanged information may qualify for a simple duplicate online or in person. A name or address change is a correction case and should follow the Errors on Permit process.
Real scenarios show what works and what causes delays.
John, 15, lost his permit the night before a scheduled lesson in Little Rock. He went to the DFA Revenue Office on 7th Street at 8:30 AM with his birth certificate and Social Security card. Paid $10, received his temporary paper permit in 20 minutes, and proceeded with his lesson.
Maria's wallet was stolen at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. She reported the theft to police and visited the Fayetteville DFA office. The police report simplified her visit, she paid the fee and left with a temporary permit.
Alex's permit went through the wash in Fort Smith. His road test was in two weeks at the Fort Smith ASP location. He applied for a duplicate online but didn't realize mailing would take up to 15 days. He had to reschedule because he lacked the physical card. An in-person visit would have avoided that delay entirely.
Only if your data has not changed, request a simple duplicate via MyDMV at mydmv.arkansas.gov for $11.50. If any information needs updating, the replacement must be done in person at a DFA Revenue Office with Driver Services.
Most rejections come from preventable mistakes. A few minutes of prep saves hours of frustration.
The Arkansas Driver License Study Guide covers all permit rules if you need a refresher while waiting for your replacement.
"The AI mock tests were surprisingly realistic. The explanations for road signs helped me understand the logic, not just memorize. Passed my permit test on the first try!"
