Wyoming's driver license fees are fixed, but specific programs offer financial help for instruction permits.
WYDOT does not currently advertise standard fee waivers for low-income families. The current new Class C/permit fee is $45. Outside assistance may pay or reimburse eligible costs, but it does not reduce or remove WYDOT's posted fee.
| Type of Help | What It Means |
|---|---|
| WYDOT fee waiver | A reduction or waiver of the state Driver Services fee itself. WYDOT does not currently advertise a standard low-income learner-permit waiver. |
| Outside financial assistance | A foster-youth, nonprofit, school, or community program may help pay or reimburse eligible driving costs without changing WYDOT's posted fee. |
Full Wyoming permit rules are at the Wyoming learner's permit guide.
Foster youth can get help with the $45 instruction permit fee. The Department of Family Services (DFS) Independent Living Program provides reimbursements or direct payment for eligible youth aged 14+.
WYDOT does not publish a blanket no-fee rule for an initial learner permit. Its published no-fee military provision applies to qualifying active-duty renewals.
While WYDOT does not advertise a standard low-income permit-fee waiver, other programs may help with overall driving costs.
| Program | Eligibility | Type of Assistance |
|---|---|---|
| DFS Independent Living Program | Foster youth, ages 14-21 | Fee reimbursement for eligible permit and driving-related costs |
| Blue Skies for Children | Low-income, homeless, or foster teens (15-17) | Scholarship for driver's education costs |
| School District Subsidies | Qualifying students in specific districts | Reduced cost for approved driver education courses |
Some outside programs may help with driver education or other approved driving costs, but coverage depends on the individual program. Ask what is eligible before paying and keep any required receipts or approvals.
"The AI mock tests were surprisingly realistic. The explanations for road signs helped me understand the logic, not just memorize. Passed my permit test on the first try!"
