Bring the documents that apply to your age and licensing path before the driving portion begins.
Road-skills attempt rules differ by age. Under 18, the application fee covers one road-skills attempt; an applicant age 18 or older may receive up to three road-skills attempts within 90 days under the application-fee rule.
Bring a current, valid instruction permit for the road test. If the permit is expired or damaged so it cannot be accepted, resolve the credential issue before testing.
Keep replacement procedures on the Lost / Stolen Permit page rather than duplicating them here.
Bring current insurance and registration for the exact vehicle used for the test.
Use the Vehicle Requirements page for the separate mechanical, safety, inspection, and open-recall rules.
Bring the documentation for the path you completed: either the required 50-hour supervised-driving log or an approved Driver Education Certificate. You do not need both when one qualifying path has been completed.
No. The 50-hour practice-log requirement is part of the under-18 Level 2 GDL path. Adult Class E applicants do not have that state 50-hour log requirement.
No. WV DMV's skills-test checklist requires the applicant to be accompanied by a valid licensed driver; it does not say that person must be a parent. If you drive to the test under an instruction permit, the person beside you must satisfy the permit's supervision rule. Ordinarily that means a licensed driver age 21 or older; West Virginia law also recognizes a driver-education or driving-school instructor acting officially.
Check the current registration and proof of insurance for the exact test vehicle, plus any applicable inspection documentation. Keep the detailed mechanical and safety-equipment checklist on the Vehicle Requirements page.
A road test can be stopped before driving begins if the required permit or vehicle documents are missing or invalid, or if an under-18 applicant has neither the required 50-hour certification/log nor an approved Driver Education Certificate.
The test vehicle must also meet the applicable safety and inspection requirements; see the Vehicle Requirements page for those checks.
"The AI mock tests were surprisingly realistic. The explanations for road signs helped me understand the logic, not just memorize. Passed my permit test on the first try!"
