The WV DMV knowledge test uses 25 multiple-choice questions administered at a kiosk at your WV DMV driver licensing office. Pass mark is 76% - 19 correct out of 25.
The test uses a 76% pass mark. For score thresholds, missed-question math, and result-specific guidance, see the dedicated passing-score content.
WV DMV publishes the same standard Class E knowledge-test format and passing mark for teen and adult applicants: 25 questions and at least 19 correct answers. Age changes the permit and licensing path, not the basic knowledge-test score.
Every question comes from the West Virginia Driver's Handbook. Study the official handbook - not just practice tests.
Road signs are tested alongside traffic laws and safe-driving rules, so review both sign recognition and rule application rather than treating them as separate exams.
Are road signs and traffic-law questions mixed together on the WV permit test? Yes. The knowledge exam covers traffic rules, signs, markings, safe-driving rules and other handbook material in one test; it is not split into separate road-sign and traffic-law exams.
Yes. The official West Virginia Driver's Licensing Handbook says the knowledge test is timed. It does not publish the number of minutes. If time expires, unanswered questions are counted as incorrect.
Work steadily through all 25 questions and avoid leaving questions unanswered. For detailed timing, break and technical-session guidance, see the dedicated Test Time Limit page.
If you do not pass, follow the WV DMV retest process before trying again. For the waiting period, rebooking details, and retake rules, see Failed & Retakes.
A new appointment is not universally required. WV DMV regional offices accept walk-ins, and appointments are also available where offered. For the full retake process, use the dedicated Failed & Retakes guide.
For the online test, use a computer with a webcam, mouse, and keyboard - phones and touch-screen-only devices are not supported. Applicants under 18 must have an adult over age 18 participate in registration; a parent or legal guardian is preferred but is not required. During testing, the adult must stay out of webcam view. A passing score is valid for 6 months, and the completion certificate must be taken to DMV for permit processing.
"The AI mock tests were surprisingly realistic. The explanations for road signs helped me understand the logic, not just memorize. Passed my permit test on the first try!"

"I was struggling with the specific road rules of my state until I used Shoro. The flashcards are a game changer for quick revision before the actual exam."

"The readiness score gives you so much confidence. I knew exactly when I was ready to take the test. Highly recommend Shoro for anyone nervous about their exam."
