Two categories of errors appear on WV permits: WV DMV data entry mistakes and applicant-provided incorrect information.
Most permit corrections require an in-person WV DMV visit. Regional offices accept walk-ins, and an appointment can also be used to reduce waiting.
| When You Find the Error | What to Do |
|---|---|
| Before leaving the DMV counter | Tell the clerk immediately and ask for the record to be corrected before the transaction is fully closed. |
| After issuance / after leaving | Bring the permit and the original document that proves the correct information to a WV DMV driver licensing office. |
| Address-only change | Use the WV DMV change-of-address process if the change can be completed online; follow DMV instructions if a replacement credential is needed. |
If you catch an error before leaving the WV DMV counter the day of issuance, notify the clerk immediately. Same-day corrections are possible before the permit is fully processed into the system.
Check the permit before leaving the DMV and compare the name, date of birth, address, restrictions, and photo with the information you provided. If you discover an error later, keep the original document that proves the correct information and use the correction process above.
General document-mismatch and application-rejection prevention belongs in the separate West Virginia Required Documents guide.
"The AI mock tests were surprisingly realistic. The explanations for road signs helped me understand the logic, not just memorize. Passed my permit test on the first try!"
