Bring the documents that apply to you and your test vehicle. Core items include a valid learner's permit, current vehicle registration, and proof of insurance. Applicants seeking a Junior Operator's License also need the required practice-log and driver-education completion requirements in order.
Applicant documents: Bring your valid Vermont learner's permit and any application paperwork required for the license transaction.
Vehicle documents: Bring current registration and proof of insurance for the test vehicle. The vehicle can be registered and inspected in Vermont or another state if it otherwise meets Vermont road-test requirements.
If the permit has been expired for less than three years, renew it before the road test. If it has been expired for more than three years, Vermont requires a written exam before proceeding.
Applicants age 16-17 seeking a Junior Operator's License must also meet the Junior License requirements.
Not for a Vermont course when completion has been entered in the Driver Education Certification Service. Qualifying out-of-state driver education follows a separate documentation process. See Vermont DMV's Junior Driver's License guidance.
The test vehicle must be safe, registered, insured, and properly inspected. The inspection does not have to be a Vermont inspection if the vehicle is legally registered and inspected in another state.
For the full equipment and rejection checklist, see the dedicated Vehicle Requirements — Road Test guide.
Missing required documents can prevent the road test from going forward, so check both applicant and vehicle paperwork before the appointment.
"The AI mock tests were surprisingly realistic. The explanations for road signs helped me understand the logic, not just memorize. Passed my permit test on the first try!"

"I was struggling with the specific road rules of my state until I used Shoro. The flashcards are a game changer for quick revision before the actual exam."
