A single moving violation conviction with an Oklahoma learner's permit does two things simultaneously: adds points to your record and resets your 6-month clock to zero. The fine is the cheap part.
A traffic citation is not the same as a conviction. For intermediate-license eligibility, the key rule is having no traffic convictions during the 180 days immediately before the drive test. If a citation becomes a conviction, that conviction can push the test date back until a new 180-day conviction-free period is completed.
A 17-year-old in Tulsa received a $20 base fine for a rolling stop. After court costs, the total was $192. The conviction date became her new starting point for the 6-month wait, pushing her license test back by four months.
See the Oklahoma learner's permit guide for complete requirements.
No. Service Oklahoma's eligibility rule is based on traffic convictions, not simply receiving a citation. If the ticket is dismissed and does not become a conviction, it does not create a new conviction date for the 180-day rule. Keep the court disposition in case your record needs to be checked. See Intermediate License eligibility.
For the full supervision and practice-hour rules, see the Oklahoma permit driving-rules guide. Service Oklahoma does not use an hour-by-hour driving log as proof during a traffic stop.
Yes. Oklahoma's point system applies from the moment your permit is issued. All moving violation convictions add 1-4 points to your permanent driving record.
Yes. Changing from a learner permit to a later license stage does not itself erase accumulated points from the driving record. Point reductions follow Service Oklahoma's normal reduction rules. See the violations and suspensions hub.
Two speeding tickets (2 points each) and a stop sign violation (2 points) put a permit holder at 6 points - receiving one more serious citation triggers the suspension process. Under OK Stat. tit. 47 s.6-105, any traffic conviction resets the 6-month wait from the conviction date. Check the violations and suspensions hub for reinstatement details. For full details on driving alone penalties, see https://www.shoro.ai/us/learners-permit/oklahoma.
Two points are removed after 12 consecutive months without a conviction for a pointable violation. After three consecutive years without a pointable conviction, the point level is reduced to zero.
Yes. Completing an approved Driver Improvement or Defensive Driving Course removes two points. Service Oklahoma gives that two-point course reduction only once in a 24-month period.
What happens when an Oklahoma permit holder reaches 10 points? Service Oklahoma says 10 or more points within five years triggers a point suspension. A first point suspension is one month, with longer periods for later point suspensions. See the official point-system guidance.
"The AI mock tests were surprisingly realistic. The explanations for road signs helped me understand the logic, not just memorize. Passed my permit test on the first try!"
