Retaking Failed Test
Oklahoma Permit Test Retakes: Next-Day Rule, Two Online Attempts, and $4 Fail Fee (2026)
If you fail Oklahoma's written permit test, you can try again the next day. Service Oklahoma allows two online attempts; after two online failures, later written-test attempts must be taken in person. The written exam can be taken as many times as needed. Each failed attempt adds $4 to the amount due when your permit is issued after you pass.

Repeated written-test failures do not end your ability to retest. The questions below explain the online-attempt limit, total attempts, and what changes after multiple failures.
How Many Times Can I Take the Oklahoma Permit Test?
You can take the Oklahoma written permit test as many times as needed. The two-attempt limit applies only to online testing, not to your total number of written-test attempts.
How many times can I fail the Oklahoma permit test? Service Oklahoma does not state a maximum number of written-test failures. You may keep retaking the exam as needed, but after two failed online attempts you must continue in person.
What Happens If I Fail the Oklahoma Permit Test 2 Times?
If both failures were online, your next written-test attempt must be in person. You can retest the next day; there is no special 30-day written-test lockout after two failures.
Written-Test vs. Drive-Test Retake Rules
| Failed Test | Oklahoma Retake Rule |
|---|---|
| Written knowledge test | You can try again the next day. Only two attempts may be taken online; later written-test attempts are in person. The written exam may be taken as many times as needed. |
| Drive test | The first three attempts are at least one day apart or as instructed by the examiner. After a third failed drive test, the 30-day rule applies before attempt four. |
What Happens If I Fail the Oklahoma Permit Test 3 Times?
A third written-test failure does not create a 30-day waiting period. You can take another written-test attempt the next day in person. The 30-day rule applies to the drive test after the third failed drive-test attempt, not to the written permit test.
Is there a maximum number of failed attempts? No total maximum is stated for the written exam. Service Oklahoma says it can be taken as many times as needed.
