Oklahoma Road Test Language Rules: English Instructions and ASL Support (2026)

The Oklahoma road skills test uses English driving instructions. ASL support may be used for pre-drive and post-drive communication, but an interpreter cannot assist inside the vehicle during the actual drive. Written-test language rules are separate.

What Language Is the Oklahoma Driving Test Conducted in?

The Oklahoma road skills test is conducted in English. Clarify unfamiliar driving instructions before the drive begins; accessibility support is covered separately below.

Can I take the Oklahoma driving test in Spanish?

• You can request clarification of any instruction before the test begins - ask the examiner to explain terms like 'parallel park' or 'three-point turn' if you are unsure before the engine starts.
• Once the test begins, all instructions are English-only with no translation assistance.

A driver in Norman confirmed the meaning of 'yield right-of-way' with the examiner before starting the engine, avoiding a critical misunderstanding during the test.

Hearing-impaired applicants can request an ASL interpreter for the Class D road test pre-drive briefing and the written test. This must be scheduled in advance by calling your Service Oklahoma location. The ASL interpreter policy is documented in the ASL Interpreters SOP. Contact the SLRS main contact through Service Oklahoma to book this service - it is not available as a walk-in request.

Written-Test Language Is a Separate Rule

Written-test language rules are separate from the road test. The online written knowledge test is English only; for current in-person language and accessibility options, see the Oklahoma permit test language guide.

Requesting ASL Support Before a Road Test

If you need language or ASL support, contact the testing location before your visit so staff can explain the available written-test or pre-drive support. Road-test instructions themselves remain in English.
