Nevada Permit Practice Hours: 50-Hour Log, 10 Night Hours, No Pencil on DLD-130

Nevada requires supervised driving practice for permit holders under 18. The rules differ by age and location.

How Many Supervised Driving Hours Does Nevada Require?

Nevada requires 50 total supervised driving hours before a teen can take the road test, including at least 10 hours driven after sunset. All hours must be logged on the official DLD-130 form, signed by the supervising driver.

Total practice hours needed depend on your age and access to driver education.

The 100-hour alternative applies only when no qualifying classroom driver education course is offered within 30 miles of your residence and you do not have internet access for an online course.

What counts as night driving for Nevada practice hours?

For the Nevada driving log, night practice should be actual supervised driving after sunset. Do not count classroom lessons, simulator time, or parked-car instruction as night driving.

Do Nevada drivers age 18+ need 50 practice hours?

No. Nevada's 50-hour practice log applies to drivers under 18. Adults who use an instruction permit should still practice with a qualified accompanying driver, but Nevada does not set a 50-hour adult minimum.

Logging Nevada Permit Driving Hours Correctly

Yes, if you are under 18 you must log driving hours. You submit a verified log when you apply for your license.

Two official logging options exist:

• RoadReady App: The DMV-partnered GPS tracking app. Export and print the log for submission.
• Paper DLD-130 Form: Download the official Beginning Driver Experience Log (DLD-130). Use only blue or black ink.

Use standard AM/PM time format on all logs. Never use military time.

Additional log sheets are available at the Nevada DMV website (DLD-130A).

Hours completed with a certified driving instructor count toward your total required practice time.

Can RoadReady replace the paper DLD-130 log?

RoadReady can help you track practice time, but keep your official Nevada driving log accurate and signed. If DMV asks for the DLD-130 or a signed log, an app screen alone may not be enough.

Nevada DMV Driving Log Verification

The DMV checks and audits logs. The signature is a legal affidavit.

Your parent or guardian must sign the DLD-130 form in front of a DMV representative at your test appointment. This applies even if using the RoadReady app - you still need the parent signature on page one of DLD-130.

If they cannot attend, the form must be signed in front of a Notary Public beforehand.

Falsifying a log is a felony in Nevada, punishable by 1-4 years in prison, fines up to $5,000, and suspension of driving privileges.

You cannot create or estimate hours after the fact. The log must be completed contemporaneously. Backdating entries is considered falsification.

Real-World Logging Issues and Rejections

• A teen in Henderson had his application rejected at the Sahara DMV office because his parent signed the DLD-130 at home. The clerk required the parent to be present to sign again, forcing a reschedule.
• A family in Reno used pencil on their paper log, citing easier corrections. The DMV examiner at the Galletti Way office rejected it, stating only blue or black ink is acceptable, delaying the test by two weeks.
• A Las Vegas applicant on Decatur Blvd presented a RoadReady app printout without the parent's signature on the first page of the DLD-130. The test was postponed until the required signature was obtained.

Driver-school hours toward the 50-hour requirement

Count actual behind-the-wheel driving time, not classroom lessons. Driver education and the supervised driving log are related, but they are not the same requirement.

What Counts Toward the Required Practice Hours

• Counts: All supervised driving with a licensed driver 21+ who has held a license for at least one year. Professional driver's ed behind-the-wheel instruction. Night driving (one hour after sunset to one hour before sunrise). Practice in varied conditions (residential, city streets, highway, parking).
• Does NOT Count: Driving during curfew hours (10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.) unless for a documented school/work event. Driving with unauthorized passengers (non-family under 18). Time spent as a passenger.

Avoiding Nevada DMV Delays on Practice Hours

Keep this page focused on the driving-hour record itself. Complete the DLD-130 or RoadReady log as you practice, make sure the required parent or guardian signature is handled correctly, and bring the completed record when it is required for the road test.

Appointment timing, residency documents, and road-test vehicle checks are covered in their dedicated Nevada permit guides.

Structuring Nevada's 50-Hour Requirement

All supervised driving on public roads with a licensed driver aged 21 or older counts toward Nevada practice hours. Both residential street driving and highway driving qualify when a qualified supervisor is present.

1. Quiet Residential Streets: 10 hours (smooth stops, signaling, intersection scanning)
2. Major City Streets: 15 hours (lane changes, yielding, speed limits)
3. Night Driving: 10 hours (mandatory, headlight use, low-light judgment)
4. Freeway/Highway: 10 hours (merging, following distances on I-15 or US-95)
5. Parking & Maneuvers: 5 hours (3-point turns, parallel parking, backing up)

Nevada's Permit Rules During the Practice Period

Practice hours must be completed under the supervision rules that apply to your Nevada instruction permit. For drivers under 18, the licensing timeline also requires the permit-holding period and a clean driving record before the road test.
