Montana uses an age-based fee schedule for non-commercial learner licenses and driver licenses. The current standard total ranges from $5.67 to $62.32 depending on age, while REAL ID totals also vary by age. MVD publishes the current totals, including administrative costs, on its official licensing-fees page.

For a standard non-commercial learner license without a motorcycle endorsement, the current MVD totals are $31.42 at age 15, $26.27 at 16, $21.12 at 17, and $15.97 at 18. REAL ID totals are higher and are listed in the table above. See https://mvdmt.gov/licensing-fees/ for the current schedule.
Yes. Montana continues to use an age-based schedule. The standard total is $10.82 at age 19, $5.67 at age 20, and $62.32 for ages 21–63, with different credential terms by age.
The current MVD replacement total is $10.30 for a non-commercial credential. Use the current fee schedule before paying because fees can change.
The driver-license receipt covers up to three attempts within its one-year validity period to complete required examinations. If the licensing process is not completed within that period, a new application and the applicable age-based fee may be required. For retake timing and failure rules, see the dedicated Failed & Retakes guide.
The MVD licensing fee is not the same as every possible out-of-pocket cost. Optional private driving lessons, replacement source documents, and service fees charged by authorized private partners can add to the total. These costs depend on the provider and the applicant's situation.
For school or private training prices, use the dedicated Behind-the-Wheel Training Cost guide rather than treating those costs as part of the state permit fee.
Montana MVD Driver Service offices accept cash, checks, and most major credit cards. County Treasurer offices may have different payment policies. First-time learner-permit payment is handled as part of the application transaction; supported online renewal or replacement services can also accept online payment. See Payment Methods for the full payment breakdown.
"The AI mock tests were surprisingly realistic. The explanations for road signs helped me understand the logic, not just memorize. Passed my permit test on the first try!"
