The Georgia Class C instructional permit test consists of exactly 40 questions divided into two separate sections: 20 Road Signs and 20 Road Rules. To pass, you must score at least 75% on each section independently, meaning you need 15 correct answers on the Road Signs test AND 15 correct answers on the Road Rules test.
The Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) administers these as two distinct consecutive exams.
| Test Section | Number of Questions | Passing Requirement | Allowed Errors |
|---|---|---|---|
| Road Signs | 20 Questions | 15 Correct (75%) | Max 5 Wrong |
| Road Rules | 20 Questions | 15 Correct (75%) | Max 5 Wrong |
| TOTAL | 40 Questions | 30 Correct Total* | Max 10 Wrong Total* |
*Note: You cannot combine scores; a perfect score on one section does not offset a failure on the other.
The Georgia knowledge exam has 40 questions: 20 Road Signs and 20 Road Rules. Georgia DDS does not publish a separate per-section time limit. Knowledge testing is walk-in, so there is no permit-test appointment slot; you must begin testing at least 30 minutes before the Customer Service Center closes.
No. Phones, paper, notes, writing tools, and other study materials should not be used in the knowledge-test area. Follow the examiner's instructions and keep prohibited items put away during testing.
Using a phone, getting outside help, or talking to someone other than the examiner can be treated as testing misconduct and can cause the exam session to be counted as a failure. Detailed retest consequences belong in the Failed Knowledge Test guide.
Each section is scored separately, so a strong score in one section cannot offset a failure in the other. If you fail one section, the overall attempt is unsuccessful and you retake the failed portion.
For waiting periods, repeat failures, fees, and the cheating exception, see the Failed Knowledge Test guide.
"The AI mock tests were surprisingly realistic. The explanations for road signs helped me understand the logic, not just memorize. Passed my permit test on the first try!"
