Georgia DDS Permit Payment Methods: Cash, Card and Mobile Pay (2026)

Georgia dds payment methods: cash, card & mail-in for permits (2026) rules apply from the day your permit is issued. The key details are below.

What payment methods does Georgia DDS accept for permits?

The initial $10 Class CP fee is paid in person at a Georgia DDS Customer Service Center before the walk-in knowledge test begins. It is not paid through the online pre-application.

Which payment methods are accepted at Georgia DDS centers?

The Georgia DDS accepts several forms of payment for in-person transactions, but not all. Personal checks, money orders, and cashier's checks are strictly banned for over-the-counter permit and license services.

Method	Accepted Types	Notes
Cards	Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover	Credit and Debit cards are accepted. Some third-party county tag offices may not accept American Express.
Digital Wallets	Apple Pay, Google Pay	Must be linked to a valid card.
Cash	US Currency	Accepted at all centers. Exact change is appreciated but not required.
Checks	NOT ACCEPTED	Personal checks, money orders, or cashier's checks are not accepted for in-person permit transactions.

Can you pay Georgia DDS by card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay?

You can pay for an in-person Georgia permit transaction with major credit/debit cards. Apple Pay and Google Pay are also accepted at DDS Customer Service Centers.

Normal CSC payments: Do not assume a separate 2.5%-4% DDS card surcharge. The earlier surcharge claim did not apply to ordinary permit counter payments.
Mail-in card payments: Some eligible mail-in services, such as certain reinstatement transactions, use the Credit Card Payment Authorization Form (DDS-100).
Checks and money orders: These are not accepted for normal over-the-counter permit transactions.

Initial Permit Payments vs. Other DDS Payment Channels

Payment channels depend on the transaction.

Transaction	Where Payment Is Made	Key Rule
Initial Class CP permit	In person at a DDS Customer Service Center	Pay before the walk-in knowledge test. Cash, major cards, Apple Pay, and Google Pay are accepted.
Eligible DDS online services	DDS Online Services / DDS 2 GO	Only transactions offered through the online account can be paid online.
Eligible mail-in reinstatement or other specified service	By mail when DDS specifically allows it	Checks, money orders, or DDS-100 card authorization may be available for that service. This does not make mail-in payment an option for an initial Class CP permit.

Common Payment Issues and How to Avoid Them

Most payment problems are avoidable by checking the transaction type before you go.

Mobile wallet confusion: Apple Pay and Google Pay are accepted at DDS Customer Service Centers, so a supported wallet should not be described as automatically rejected.
Wrong payment channel: Checks and money orders are not accepted at a Customer Service Center for the initial permit, even though some specified mail-in services accept them.
Fee amount: Confirm the current fee on the official DDS site rather than relying on an old third-party page.

How to Avoid Payment Problems at Georgia DDS

Bring an accepted in-person payment method for the $10 Class CP fee.
Do not mail a check for an initial permit transaction.
Complete the License/ID/Permit Form online before visiting, but expect to pay the permit fee at the DDS center before testing.
