Florida Road Test Locations: FLHSMV, Tax Collectors, and Third-Party Testers

Florida Class E road tests are available through locations that offer the service, including participating government offices and approved third-party providers. Not every office administers road tests, and some county tax collectors restrict appointments to county residents, so verify the exact location before booking.

Where Can You Take the Florida Class E Driving Skills Test?

You may choose a location that offers the road test and accepts you as an applicant. Availability, residency rules, and scheduling policies can differ by office.

• Government road-test locations: Confirm that the specific office offers the Class E road test and check its appointment rules.
• County Tax Collector Offices: Some restrict road tests to county residents; for example, Hillsborough County currently does.
• Approved Third-Party Administrators: These can provide another testing option; confirm the provider's fees, vehicle rules, and availability directly.

Can You Test in Another County or Use a Third-Party Provider?

Can you take the Florida road test in a different county? Possibly, but not every tax collector accepts every applicant. Check the exact office before booking because local residency and service rules can differ.

Can a county tax collector limit road tests to county residents? Yes. Hillsborough County, for example, currently limits its road tests to Hillsborough County residents.

Are approved third-party Florida road-test results accepted? Yes. FLHSMV-approved third-party administrators submit Class E driving-skills exam results to the department. Final license issuance still follows the Florida licensing process, and applicants may be subject to re-examination.

How to Schedule Your Florida Class E Road Test

Schedule through the system used by the specific FLHSMV, tax collector, or approved third-party provider you choose. Verify that the location offers road tests and accepts your residency before booking. Detailed appointment timing and wait guidance belongs in the appointment and office-hours articles.

All Florida permit requirements are covered in the Florida permit guide.

Does the Florida Road Test Examiner or Location Matter?

There is no official list of easiest road test examiners-reputations are based on anecdotal community feedback and change frequently. All examiners use the same Florida standards. 'Examiner shopping' by repeatedly rescheduling for a specific tester is not a reliable strategy and can delay your licensing by weeks.

Suburban offices anecdotally have simpler test routes because of lower surrounding traffic volume. Scouting the area around your chosen office before your test date is more effective than trying to predict examiner behavior. Drive the roads near the office at the same time of day as your scheduled test.

Before You Book a Florida Road Test Location

Bring the credential and vehicle documents required by your testing location. Applicants under 18 must also satisfy the 50-hour driving-experience certification requirement. HSMV 71142 is not a universal road-test document. See the dedicated Road Test Documents page for the complete checklist.
