You can take the Delaware road skills test at any of the four full-service DMV locations. Each office has a different driving environment. This guide describes what to expect at each location so you can choose where to schedule.
While you can take your driving test at any DMV location, each site has different traffic conditions that can affect your experience. The examiners follow the same scoring criteria, but the driving environment varies. All locations require an appointment; walk-ins are not accepted for road tests. Testing is not available on Wednesdays. A $25 no-show fee may be charged if you don't show up for your scheduled road test.
Yes. You can schedule the road test at any of Delaware’s four full-service DMV locations, subject to appointment availability. You are not limited to the office in your home county.
Download the Road Test Handout PDF before booking. The accompanying licensed driver must stay on site to drive the vehicle if you fail. Review your vehicle rules at vehicle checklist at dmv.de.gov.
No. The driving environment changes from one office to another, but Delaware DMV applies the same road-test requirements and scoring standards statewide.
Delaware DMV does not designate an “easiest” road-test office. Choose a location based on appointment availability, travel distance, and familiarity with the type of roads around the office rather than expecting easier scoring.
Are road tests available on Wednesdays at any Delaware DMV? No. Delaware DMV does not conduct road tests on Wednesdays.
No, you cannot 'examiner shop' by rescheduling to get a specific or easier tester. Examiners are assigned randomly on the day of your test. The Delaware DMV does not allow you to choose or request an examiner. Rescheduling repeatedly in hopes of a different tester only delays your licensing process.
Book a mid-morning slot on a Tuesday or Thursday, the DMV's own wait time data shows those are the least busy windows around all locations and reduce potential wait times due to examiner breaks or earlier test overruns.

The test lasts about 30 minutes. If you fail, wait 10 days before retaking it.
A Class D learner permit is valid for 12 months. If the required road exam is not completed within that period, the applicant must reapply; the old six-month/$5 extension rule is not the current Class D rule. Late arrival = automatic reschedule, no grace period. Weather cancellations are possible (rain, snow, sleet, hail, fog, wind). The accompanying driver must present a valid license showing they are at least 21. Phone numbers: Wilmington 302-434-3220 | Delaware City 302-832-5176 | Dover 302-744-2515 | Georgetown 302-853-1003. "The AI mock tests were surprisingly realistic. The explanations for road signs helped me understand the logic, not just memorize. Passed my permit test on the first try!"
