Bring the documents required for your licensing path and the test vehicle. Some driver-education records are sent electronically to DMV rather than carried as paper certificates.
Use this checklist by category instead of treating every applicant as having the same nine paper items.
No. When an EDEC is required, the Connecticut-licensed driving school sends it electronically to DMV. Confirm that it is on file before the appointment.
Yes. For an applicant under 18, the qualified trainer must be present and complete the required certification that the driver-education and practice requirements were fulfilled.
Do you need to bring the vehicle registration and insurance card inside the DMV office? Yes. Bring the test vehicle's registration and insurance documentation with you when you check in for the road test.
If you present an out-of-country license that is not in English, Connecticut DMV requires a translation from a DMV-approved translator.
Teen applicants must complete Connecticut's required supervised practice before the road test. At the road-test stage, the qualified trainer is responsible for the required certification for an applicant under 18.
Detailed hour-count, home-training and practice-log rules belong on the dedicated Practice Hours and Behind-the-Wheel Training pages.
If required paperwork is missing, DMV may be unable to conduct the road test and the appointment will need to be rescheduled.
Do not treat a document problem as the same thing as failing the driving test: the universal 14-day retest wait applies to a failed road test, not automatically to every missing-document situation. The original $40 testing fee also should not be described as automatically forfeited for every document problem without a specific DMV rule saying so.
Before leaving for the appointment, check the permit, application paperwork, vehicle registration and insurance, and any under-18 trainer requirements that apply to you. Confirm electronically transmitted driver-education records are on file when required.
Use Connecticut DMV's duplicate learner's permit process before the appointment. If you cannot provide a valid permit or satisfy the required credential check on test day, the road test may need to be rescheduled.
"The AI mock tests were surprisingly realistic. The explanations for road signs helped me understand the logic, not just memorize. Passed my permit test on the first try!"
