Supervisor Rules — Get This Wrong = Instant Fine

Can a Passenger Restricted License driver supervise a Learners Permit in Connecticut? Who qualifies as a supervisinqualified trainer? Does a Passenger Restricted License count toward the trainer experience requirement in Connecticut?

Learners Permit Cannot Drive Without a SupervisorA qualified trainer — licensed 20 or older, held a license for at least 4 consecutive years, and no suspension in the last 4 years — must sit in the front passenger seat at all times.
⚠ Caught driving alone as Learners Permit = immediate suspension + fine.
Trainer Must Meet Specific RequirementsA parent or guardian can be a trainer only if they are aged 20+, have held a license for at least 4 consecutive years, and have had no suspension in the last 4 years. Passenger Restricted License holders do not qualify.
Front Passenger Seat OnlyNo backseat supervisors. Must be positioned to take control of the vehicle immediately.
Trainer Must Be Sober and AlertYour trainer must be fit to supervise at all times. An impaired or distracted trainer defeats the purpose and can result in consequences for both parties. Connecticut does not publish a specific BAC ceiling for trainers, but impairment is always a problem.
Supervisor Must Be Alert & SoberNo phone use, no fatigue. Police can suspend the Learners Permit driver if supervisor is distracted or impaired.
