Drivers age 18 or older do not have a minimum Colorado permit-holding period under the current rules. Once the permit is valid and the applicant is ready and otherwise eligible, the road test can be scheduled with an approved provider.

Booking windows are set by the approved testing provider. A minor can book ahead if the provider allows it, but the actual test date must be after the applicant has satisfied the 12-month permit-holding requirement. Adults 18 and older do not have the same minimum holding period.

How far ahead you can book depends on the approved testing provider. Confirm its calendar and cancellation policy directly. For current state fees, the regular instruction permit is $20 and the standard driver/minor driver license is $34; private road-test charges are set by the testing provider.
Failing the Colorado road test does not restart a minor's 12-month permit-holding period.
Regular drive tests are primarily handled by approved testing providers, so the applicant generally rebooks with a provider and pays that provider's applicable testing charge. Do not treat a commercial-school road test as an in-office State DMV retest.
Out-of-state minor permit holders are a separate case. A 16- or 17-year-old with a valid out-of-state permit may be allowed one Colorado drive test on that permit after meeting the statutory requirements, including holding a valid permit for at least 12 months. Do not assume every applicant must restart the 12-month clock from the date a Colorado permit is issued.
