The Arkansas Driver License Study Guide is produced by Arkansas State Police and DFA. You need it to pass the 25-question knowledge test.
Score at least 80% (20 correct answers) or you'll pay another $5 to retake it.
Download the Arkansas Driver License Study Guide free from the official Arkansas State Police Driver Examination page. The current English guide is Volume 1, Edition 10, January 2026, listed by ASP as revised January 22, 2026. Starting from the official ASP page also helps you avoid studying from an outdated third-party copy.
Check the official ASP Driver Examination page rather than relying only on a saved PDF filename. ASP currently lists the English guide as revised January 22, 2026, Volume 1, Edition 10.
An older guide can still explain basic driving concepts, but laws, forms, fees, testing procedures, and licensing rules can change. Use the current ASP-listed edition for permit-test preparation.
Request a printed copy at any DFA Revenue Office or ASP Driver Examination site. It is free. Most applicants use the PDF, it's searchable and always the most current version.
Physical copies are limited. Most offices refer you to the digital version, but some ASP testing centers keep printed stock.
Call your local State Police troop before driving over. If they have copies, ask about the $5 printing fee so you're not caught off guard.
A parent in Springdale visited the Revenue Office during lunch, waited 45 minutes, and learned they were out of booklets. They got directed to Troop L testing center, which charged $5 for a printed copy.
Free, the PDF and printed copies are both provided at no charge. Knowledge-test and credential fees are covered in the dedicated Permit Cost & Fees page.
The PDF is completely free. You only pay if you want a printed copy from an ASP testing site.
just download the PDF. The printed version has no advantage and costs money you could put toward your license fees.
Section 2 (road signs, shape and color identification) and Section 3 (traffic laws and right-of-way) cover 70 to 80% of the exam. Read them twice. The GDL rules section matters for under-18 applicants specifically.
Focus on Chapters 1 through 4. These cover everything on the test. Chapter 2 alone can make or break your score.
Print the fines chart from Chapter 1 and stopping distances from Chapter 4 separately. The exam asks specific questions about these numbers.
An applicant in Jonesboro forgot the seat belt law details from Chapter 1 and failed twice. The current PDF covers it clearly on page 9, don't skim that section.
You'll also take a vision screening with your knowledge exam. Minimum requirement is 20/40 acuity in each eye.
The study guide contains Arkansas road-sign and traffic-control material you should know for the exam. Use it as the official base, then use the dedicated Road Sign Questions page for focused practice.
No official source says the handbook prints the live exam question bank. It teaches the rules the knowledge test is based on; use the official ASP practice test to check understanding rather than memorizing handbook sentences as exact test questions.
Paul's Law (zero phone use for under-21 drivers), the 0.02% BAC zero-tolerance limit for under-21, school bus stop distances, and Move Over law requirements for work zones. These are Arkansas-specific, national study guides won't cover them accurately.
Don't skip the penalty tables and state-specific laws. These are where people lose points.
A teen in Little Rock failed a Move Over Law question using an old PDF that didn't clearly list the penalties. The current handbook spells them out on page 34.
Schedule your knowledge test online and pick "Driver's License/Motorcycle Instruction Permit Test." Tuesday or Wednesday mornings work best. ASP testing centers in Little Rock get packed on Mondays and Fridays, and long waits just increase test anxiety.
If you fail the first attempt, you'll pay another $5 and wait before retesting. Study the handbook thoroughly the first time and save yourself the hassle.
"The AI mock tests were surprisingly realistic. The explanations for road signs helped me understand the logic, not just memorize. Passed my permit test on the first try!"

"I was struggling with the specific road rules of my state until I used Shoro. The flashcards are a game changer for quick revision before the actual exam."
