Alaska Statute 28.15.281 separates two different acts: subsection (a)(4) covers lending your driver's license or knowingly allowing another person to use it, while subsection (b) covers knowingly allowing an unlicensed person to drive a vehicle you own or control.
The correct subsection depends on what you actually did.
| Conduct | Statute | Current Schedule |
|---|---|---|
| Lending your driver's license or knowingly allowing another person to use it | AS 28.15.281(a)(4) | Unlawful use of driver's license — $200 |
| Knowingly allowing an unlicensed person to drive a vehicle you own or control | AS 28.15.281(b) | Separate offense; mandatory court/criminal handling |
Lending the credential does not automatically make subsection (b) the right charge. Subsection (b) depends on control or ownership of the vehicle and the driver's licensing status.
The current Alaska court schedule lists unlawful use under AS 28.15.281(a) with 0 points. That does not remove the fine or any separate consequences tied to other conduct.
Knowingly allowing another person to use your credential is separate from letting an unlicensed person drive your vehicle. The lending/use provision does not depend on the other person actually driving.
That is different from knowingly lending the credential. Report suspected misuse promptly. If the permit is missing, use the lost/stolen replacement process and consider reporting theft or identity misuse to law enforcement.
Handing over your permit increases the risk that someone else will commit identity-related fraud using your information.
That is a different issue. AS 28.15.281(b) addresses knowingly allowing an unlicensed person to drive a vehicle you own or control, even when you never hand over your credential.
If the permit is lost or stolen, use the dedicated Alaska lost/stolen permit guide for replacement steps. Report suspected misuse promptly and consider a police report when theft or identity misuse is involved.
Your permit is the first step to a full license. Protect it physically and legally.
Most People Forget: Schedule your DMV appointment for the first available morning slot to avoid long afternoon waits that can lead to rushed paperwork mistakes.
"The AI mock tests were surprisingly realistic. The explanations for road signs helped me understand the logic, not just memorize. Passed my permit test on the first try!"
