The Quebec Class 5 (Learner) licence knowledge test contains 16 road sign questions. This section, officially called Road Signs & Signals, makes up 25% of the total 64-question exam.
The SAAQ knowledge test is split into three graded sections. You must pass each section independently with a score of 75% or higher.
| Test Section | Total Questions | Passing Score (75%) | Max Errors Allowed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Road Signs & Signals | 16 | 12 Correct | 4 |
| Highway Safety Code (Rules) | 16 | 12 Correct | 4 |
| Specialization (Driving Behaviours) | 32 | 24 Correct | 8 |
The road sign test questions cover regulatory, warning, and information signs from the Quebec Driver's Handbook. Common topics include:
Failing the road signs section alone causes an automatic failure of the entire test event, triggering a mandatory 28-day wait before retaking that section.
Yes. This section is broader than roadside signs alone. SAAQ groups road signs, pavement markings, and traffic signals together, so study lane markings and signal meanings as well as sign shapes and symbols.
Can temporary and construction signs appear in Quebec permit-test preparation? Yes. Study temporary and construction signage as part of the full Quebec sign system rather than memorizing only common regulatory and warning signs. Do not expect a fixed number of construction-sign questions.
The road-sign section requires at least 12 correct answers out of 16. If you fail a section, the minimum wait before retaking the failed section is 28 days.
If you fail a section, only that failed section is retaken after at least 28 days. Full retake details are in the failed-test guide.
"The AI mock tests were surprisingly realistic. The explanations for road signs helped me understand the logic, not just memorize. Passed my permit test on the first try!"
