Your Class 7L remains valid until its printed expiry date after you turn 18. Turning 18 does not waive the 12-month L-stage holding period and does not remove Class 7L driving restrictions. The parent/guardian consent threshold is under 19, so age 18 and age 19 are not the same for that requirement.
Your learner's permit after turning 18 does not automatically renew or change. You keep the same physical card. You do not need a new permit at 18 unless your current one is expiring.
Turning 18 does not create a new Class 7L rule set.
| Rule | Under 18 | Age 18 | Age 19+ |
|---|---|---|---|
| Minimum 12-month L holding period | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Class 7L driving restrictions | Apply | Apply | Apply while holding an L |
| Mandatory 60-hour practice log | No separate ICBC requirement | No separate ICBC requirement | No separate ICBC requirement |
| Parent/guardian consent threshold | Under-19 rule applies | Still under 19 | No parental consent once 19+ |
Alex got his L at 17 and turns 18 three months later. His card stays valid until its printed expiry date, but he still needs to complete the full 12-month L holding period before the Class 7 road test.
Sam gets a Class 7L at 19. She does not need parental consent, but she still has to hold the L for at least 12 months before the Class 7 road test.
If the L expires before the learner completes the required path, turning 18 does not extend the licence or remove the need to reapply for a valid L before driving.
After the learner has held the L for at least 12 months and is otherwise eligible, the Class 7 road-test process is the same whether the learner is 18 or older. Booking, test-day documents, and vehicle requirements belong in the dedicated road-test and licence guide.
"The AI mock tests were surprisingly realistic. The explanations for road signs helped me understand the logic, not just memorize. Passed my permit test on the first try!"

"I was struggling with the specific road rules of my state until I used Shoro. The flashcards are a game changer for quick revision before the actual exam."
